If you were a young boy at any point, there's a good chance that you played with some form of race car. No matter how old you get, that adrenaline rush never leaves you, when you see a fast loud car. These were the fastest and loudest cars available.
This year we upped our coverage by doing a 30 minute preview show, the night before the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen. We put A LOT of time into it, and I mean A LOT! In this job, we very rarely receive kudos, and that's not why we do it. Still, I want to thank all of you for our kind words. You kept us going as we were running on 10 hours of sleep over a three night span.
Still, as sports fans ourselves, we like to take victory laps ourselves. Mapping out a Kyle Busch feature (Yes, I know you may not like him, but he's still an interesting figure in sports), only to watch him move on to win the race, reminds us that some times, we might actually know what we are doing. (Don't worry, we're normally brought right back down to Earth, moments later.)
But the 18 Sports team watched carefully over the weekend. We analyzed our data and video, and we all came up with a prediction for Sunday's race. It was not something that we took lightly.
The picks went like this:
Me: Kyle Busch
Mario: Brad Keselowski
Chuck: Martin Truex Jr.
The top three finishers went like this:
1. Kyle Busch
2. Brad Keselowski
3. Martin Truex Jr.
If you want to look at it as bragging, go ahead, but the 18 Sports Team will just look at this as our post race donuts or burnout.
