Astorino Stops By for Fundraising Dinner in Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM-18) – Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino stopped by Elmira Tuesday night for a fundraising dinner.

The fundraiser was held at Burnie Murray’s on South Main Street. More than 100 people attended. Astorino has been touring across the state for the past two days. He focused on fracking outside the fundraiser, how his administration would set it up, and the economic benefit that he says it would bring to the Southern Tier.

“We would set it up the right way, make sure public health is first and foremost, the right regulations, but then let's get this business and this industry going so people can get back to work,” said Astorino.

Since the beginning of the year, Astorino’s chances in a head to head matchup against Governor Andrew Cuomo have improved by 18 points, according to Siena polls. He says this shows his campaign has momentum, and that New Yorkers are ready for a change.

Astorino also said he has narrowed down his choice of running mate for Lieutenant Governor, and that the final decision would come in a few days. When pressed on his potential running mate’s identity, he said, “I know, but I’m not telling.”
