Boy Scouts food drive benefits local food pantries

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The Horseheads Food Pantry is busy sorting donations - donations collected by local boy scouts who picked them up from your door step.

The scouts have been collecting food to help local pantries feed those in need.

They dropped off donation bags at area homes last weekend for their annual "Fill the Tent" campaign.

The scouts collected the food Saturday morning.  Organizers say the food coming in the pantry feeds a big part of our community and will help keep the shelves full throughout the winter.

"The boy scouts are very faithful to us and very, very generous to the families.  It's just amazing how generous people are even when it's tight for them too and winter with bigger bills coming in from utilities, people are still generous and still able to help their neighbors," said co-director of Horseheads Food Pantry Janice Kinney.

If you didn't receive a donation bag, you can still help by donating items to your local Tops Market Sunday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The donated goods will benefit local food pantries.
