Boy Scouts to accept girls in 2018

(NBC NEWS) - Big changes are ahead for the Boy Scouts.

The organization announced Wednesday it will soon start accepting girls.

The Scouting Board of Directors voted unanimously to make the historic change.

Starting in 2018, girls can join Cub Scout Packs, which consist of smaller groups called Dens.

Those Dens, however, will remain single gender. Therefore, there will be Dens for girls and Dens for boys.

Girls can work up the ranks will have the opportunity to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
