Catholic Charities shines light on domestic violence

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - October is domestic violence awareness month.

Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties held an event Saturday night in honor of Kelley Stage-Clayton who was murdered in 2015, to showcase the warning signs of domestic violence.

"We just like to thank everybody participating in this event and we really are hoping to raise awareness regarding domestic violence," said Kelley's sister Kim Bourgeois.  "People really are not that familiar with it and there's a lot that people can learn and take away from an event such as this."

The event was held at Eldridge Park in Elmira from 5 - 7 p.m.

Attendees were encouraged to wear purple, the color of domestic violence awareness.

Catholic Charities will host another event on Saturday, October 14 to show their support by attending a hike at the Watkins Glen Gorge from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.  For more details, visit https://cs-cc.org/
