ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Chemung County may soon be looking for a full-time computer security expert. That's because its' website was recently hacked.
Though the hacker didn't make it past the homepage, they did change the photo of county executive Tom Santulli on the site.
Santulli said none of the county's servers were accessed, but it does bring to light the importance of enhancing cyber security:
"That's where all your information is today, it's not in the file cabinet on paper it's on somewhere in the Internet system that we have," Santulli said. "So at some point I want to bring in somebody who does nothing but work on cyber security to protect – because every time you create a firewall we're finding out somebody's out there trying to get through that firewall or around that firewall."
Santulli said a new web site design is currently being tested.
