"Very devoted to his community. Just always wanted to give, whatever he could do to help our kids here in the community. I think the kind of person many of us would like to try to emulate in our daily lives."

The driver of the car who hit the couple, 33-year-old Jason L. Townsend, of Nichols, N.Y., turned himself in hours following the accident.
