After the city declared the old Rosenbaum and Marvins buildings a hazard after the collapse of a third floor roof last week, action was quickly taken by officials to begin emergency demolition.
Demolition was set to begin yesterday however the discovery of asbestos in one of the two decaying buildings delayed the process.
Demolition officially began today, with portions of the dilapidated Rosenbaum's building crumbling with what appeared to be light taps from the machinery.
Director of Code Enforcement, Rocco Picarazzi said construction may take up to a week for completion.
"There was a little delay because we're just finalizing some paperwork for the state for some asbestos removal."
There are no set plans yet for the real estate that the buildings sit on.
