ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Children arriving at Riverside Elementary School this morning discovered two of their fellow classmates were killed in a fire over the weekend.
Saturday's house fire on Elmira's Southside claimed the lives of three people. Two of them were Trinity M. Sheridan, age 5, and Omar C. Sheridan, age 6.
They attended the elementary school. One neighbor says she remembers seeing the kids every morning as they went to school.
"I remember the dad being a great dad, he walked the kids past here every morning to take them to school at Riverside," Denise Hepfner, a neighbor, said. "I always speak to them, the kids were always saying 'hi' and you know they were just a very, very nice kids and a great dad."
The Elmira City School District said in an email that a total five licensed social workers are at Riverside Elementary School. They are Providing grief counseling and assistance to both students and staff.
The District also said it will be coordinating with community agencies to provide support for the family and school community.

There is another GoFundMe page for the surviving family who also lived in the home, who are now homeless.
