ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The Elmira Garden Club held their annual plant sale at the Southern Tier Orphanage School on Fulton Street in Elmira's southside.
All the plants for sale are grown from club member's own backyards.
The garden club is dedicated to beautifying the community and the money that comes from the sale will maintain the club's community projects.
Projects include: Eldridge Park Flower Beds, Hal Roach Cemetery Gravesite at Woodlawn cemetery, Katy Leary Community Gardens, Veterans Rose Gardens at Wisner Park, Chemung County Historical Society Flowers, and the Fulton St. Cemetery where 56 Orphans were buried from the Southern Tier Orphanage from 1866 to 1928.
The garden club is a non-profit that's been around for 89 years. There's 75 club members from ages 15 to 90 years old.
The money raised will also benefit the orphanage building where they store their plants.
The plant sale is still going on Saturday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 426 Fulton St, Elmira, New York.
