Elmira Salvation Army Red Kettle donations down this holiday season

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The Elmira Salvation Army is asking for your help this Christmas season.

Every year, the organization works to provide the makings for a great Christmas holiday to families in need but officials say they're well short of their goal this year.

They're asking for donations of anything from money to toys, even food.

They say this year, supplies are not lasting long and they have a big need for toys, especially for children up to age 12.

"The Salvation Army loves to help the community and what we're doing right now is feeding the hungry during the Christmas season and we're also trying to brighten Christmas morning for children in need so any toys given away will put a smile on a child's face so you're helping create Christmas for someone," said Major Dorie Haggerty.

Organization officials say they're also behind $35,000 on its Red Kettle goal.

To help, you can drop off money in the kettle at major shopping locations or you can send a check to the Salvation Army: 414 Lake St, Elmira, NY 14901 and mark it "Red Kettle campaign."  All proceeds applies to its Christmas effort.
