EPD Warns of Counterfeit Money Use

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The Elmira Police Department is warning local business owners about the recent use of counterfeit money being reported at various locations around the city.

Some of the warning signs on the fake notes being used include:

- The serial numbers have some digits that are backwards.

- The president's name that should be associated with the denomination is incorrect.

- The name of the landmark pictured on the back of the notes are incorrect.

- The notes have "COPY" printed on them.

Police add most of the counterfeit notes being reported are $20 and $100 bills.

Anyone with any information on the fake money is asked to call the Elmira Police Department at 737-5626.
