ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - It was a big day for book lovers in the Southern Tier.
"Book Fest" connects area readers, authors and businesses around the common law of the written word.
Kids in the area got their hands on free new books and explored their creative side Saturday at Diven Elementary school in Elmira.
They even got to meet some authors.
The event is put on by the Family Reading Partnership of Chemung Valley.
"Book Fest is an opportunity for everyone to see that no matter the age, even from the very young ones who can't read at all, all the way up through elementary school," said Book Fest chairperson Michelle Halperin. "Books are an opportunity to form a personal connection with kids with family, building vocabulary, building comprehension skills, all of that."
The book festival also featured therapy dogs and of course story time.
