To get the numbers, we went through nearly 200 pages of financial disclosure forms that are publicly available on the Federal Election Commission’s website.
In the 2nd Quarter, Congressman Tom Reed raised $662,968. His challenger, Democrat and Tompkins County Legislator Martha Robertson, raised $451,574.
Looking through the financial documents revealed that Congressman Reed raised less than 7% of his funds from inside the 23rd District. In contrast, Robertson raised over 30% of her funds from inside the district in the 2nd Quarter.
According to the FEC website, 39% of Congressman Reed’s funds this election cycle have come from large and small contributions from individuals. 55% of Congressman Reed’s money has come from PACs. According to the same site, 84% of Robertson’s money has come from individual contributions, while only 15% has come from PACs.
