Help your community by playing Mario video games for 48 hours

CORNING, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - If you're into video games, specifically Mario, then you're in luck. A local gaming store will give you the chance to play for 48 hours straight and there's a good reason behind it.

The Game Shoppe on Corning's northside is hosting a 48-hour Mario Marathon.

"We were just sitting around talking one day and said, 'Well, what can we do to help the community? We're all gamers. Why don't we do some sort of gaming fundraiser?'' Organizer Michael Krause said. "It just kind of developed from there."

You can play as many Mario games as you want within the the time frame and all proceeds go towards individuals in need of assistance whether it's for medical and dental bills that insurance won't cover, housing repairs before winter, or education expenses just to name a few.

"Not everybody has the means to help themselves, so if we can do something that's going to be great, why not?" Amie Tingey, a gamer and sponsor, said.

Their goal is to raise $25,000 and they're strictly running on donations.

If there's a certain game that you want to play, like Super Mario 64 or Super Smash Bros., you can visit the website at twintiersmariothon.org and check out the game schedule.

But if you're not a gamer, don't you worry.

"Come on in," Krause said. "We'll show you how it's done."

The organizers hope to soon create their own nonprofit called Gamers For Good. It would host different video game themed events, but the upcoming one is strictly for Mario games.

The Game Shoppe is located at 75 S Bridge Street in Corning. It starts on Friday, October 13 at 5:00 P.M. and runs through Sunday, October 15 at 5:00 P.M.
