HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Horseheads is gearing up to celebrate 'Zim Day,' this Saturday, May 20. Eugene Zimmerman, otherwise known as "Zim", was one of the nation's most respected cartoonists during the 20th century
The event will be held at Zimmerman's home in Horseheads from noon until 3 p.m. The afternoon will include guided tours of Zim's restored home, a barbeque on the lawn and caricatures.
"We're trying to let people know that they have a gem right here in the middle of little Horseheads," Horseheads historian Joan O'Dell said. "So many people have lived here all their lives, and never been here. They don't know anything about it."
Zim was also very active in the community. He designed the Teal Park bandstand, which sits next to his house. Zim died on March 26, 1935 at the age of 72.
