Jewish leaders talk precautions after Jerusalem announcement

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel may be felt all the way to the Southern Tier.

In Pakistan, Muslim supporters of a radical religious group took part in a demonstration, where protesters burned American and Israeli flags.

Also the leader of the Islamic militant group Hamas is calling for a new uprising against Israel in the wake of the announcement.

All this talk of violence is causing local Jewish leaders to take precautions.

"We have already received some security advisories to up security this weekend, we hope nothing will actually happen," Dr. Oren Steinitz, Rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami.  "The President's declaration did not really address the fact there's also a holy site for Muslims and if there's Palestinian claims for it."

Palestinians have called for a general strike and are preparing for more mass protests in the Middle East Friday.
