ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - It's the first week of March, only two weeks until spring officially starts, but that didn't stop many from coming down to King Kone in Elmira on the first day of business for 2018. "It's the opening day of King Kone" Said John Neidrich a customer at King Kone this afternoon.
Ryan Hufford of Elmira says, "Getting my first ice cream cone!" He continued by saying his ice cream was "yummy!" Kathy Hufford, Ryan's Nana says, "I said I'm putting my boots on and coming down and having ice cream but, that's what the little ones wanted." John Neidrich says, "Annual tradition here, we've been doing this since- second annual I guess and we're looking forward to doing it each year, we're always disappointed when they close up and we're here to welcome them when they open."
Even though it's still technically considered winter, co-owner Beth Spaziani says business is booming. Between 11 AM and noon she had already seen nearly 50 customers. But why does Spaziani choose to open the doors of King Kone in March as opposed to a warmer month? "My father in-law always opened up this early," Said Spaziani. "And as you can see we've been very busy, I've been very busy today."
If you didn't get a chance to grab that ice cream cone today, don't worry, they are open from 11 AM till 10 PM 7-days a week through Labor Day.
