One of the other big local races this year is the race for the 23rd Congressional District between Congressman Tom Reed and Tompkins County Legislator Martha Robertson. A local political analyst says Moss’ run will help Rep. Reed, who was in a very close race last election.
“It looks like this is going to be a very close election also, so the fact that more and more folks will be voting in the general election for Chris Moss means that they're going to have that Congressional race in the 23rd [District] on the ballot, in this Southern Tier area, and so it looks as though that's going to help Tom Reed,” said Dr. Stephen Coleman, WETM 18’s political analyst.
We reached out to both campaigns for comment on this story Monday. In an e-mailed statement, Congressman Reed said, "Chris Moss is a wonderful representative of our district and an outstanding public servant. Like me, Chris Moss cares about the people he represents. Chris also shares my passion for protecting our fundamental freedoms like our Second Amendment rights. His presence on the ticket is a home run for all of us, especially gun owners, and will serve as an added boost on Election Day to ensure Martha Robertson's extreme views never make it to Washington."
Martha Robertson's campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
