ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Good news for cowboys and cowgirls in the Twin Tiers. Crews at First Arena are gearing up for a professional bull riding event this weekend.
But first, where there was once ice, there must be dirt, a lot of it. Officials said 38 truckloads of dirt were dropped on the arena floor on Monday.
PBR officials said it's been years since they made a stop in Elmira. Many fans were concerned the event would be cancelled because of uncertainty over arena ownership.
"We did have some concerns and emails, some phone calls from everybody, we need to let them know that things are alive and well here at the First Arena, there's more events coming in the WWE coming up," PBR Promoter and stock contractor Shawn Zrowka said. "You know Bob Thomas and his crew are doing a great job trying to bring big events into the area."
There will be vendors selling cowboy hats and all sorts of other apparel. And if you're in Downtown Elmira this Thursday, you'll have a chance to meet some of the stars of the show.
"We're going to have one of our bulls here that's actually been all over the country to PBR's, bucked off some top name guys," Zrowka said. "He's going to be sitting right out front of the First Arena right on Main Street so anybody coming down to get their tickets can get a sneak peak at one of the bulls, get some pictures taken. We're actually going to have one of our bullfighters out there as well signing autographs, so it'll be a great opportunity to come down and check things out.
You can catch the show on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the arena box office or on the website.
