PSP Warning Public of Microsoft Phone Scam

TIOGA TOWNSHIP, Pa. (18 NEWS) - Police are warning people of a Microsoft scam that cost one local woman tens of thousands of dollars.

Pennsylvania State Police in Mansfield say a Tioga Township woman received a message on her computer back in September, prompting her to call a phone number otherwise she'd be locked put of her account.

While talking with someone whom she believed to be a representative for Microsoft, the victim gave out her bank account information, which then led to her savings and checking accounts being emptied and her credit cards maxed out.

Police said the amount stolen totaled over $21k.
