Residents gather to meet Democratic Congressional hopefuls

CORNING, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - A community gathering for Democratic Congressional candidates is underway.

The event is put on by Town of Corning Democrats. It gives residents the opportunity to meet the candidates who are running against Republican Congressman Tom Reed.

Residents packed the South Corning Fire Department and got a chance to ask the candidates questions one-on-one.

"I feel its important a lot of people talk to us, we've been to house parties with one candidate and they wanted to hear all six candidates together," Meleny Beacock, Communications Director for the Town of Corning Democrats, said. "There's various events going on, we're one of the firsts and we feel it's critical in giving the information and the access they need."

The state's 23rd Democratic Congressional Primary is on June 26.
