Schumer looks to protect funding for farm safety

HECTOR, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will be in Schuyler County on Monday to announce his plan to keep farmers in the Southern Tier safe.

Schumer said he's opposed to proposed funding cuts for the Northeast Center for Occupational Safety and Health for Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The center provides information and cost saving measures for things like the National Rollover Protection System Rebate Program, which reimburses up to 70 percent of the cost of installing  rollover bars on farm machinery.

Schumer will be at Sawmill Creek Vineyards in Hector to announce his plan to protect the program on Monday afternoon.
