Steuben County IDA audited by State Comptroller, IDA responds

BATH, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The Steuben County Industrial Development Agency was one of six New York State IDA's audited by the comptroller's office in 2015.

The governance audit found that some things the IDA could improve on were project selection criteria, ongoing monitoring, and reporting.

The comptroller's office said the agency's applications did not require applicant information to be verified or confirmed before approving a project for financial assistance, but the IDA says that during the audit, it was working with the comptroller's office to develop a reform package which corrected the recommendations in 2016 - a year before the results were released.

"While they recommended that these best practices should be applied... in all of the cases in our IDA, we had already approved and applied them before the audit report was provided to us in a draft format," Steuben County IDA Executive Director Jamie Johnson said.

A total of six recommendations were suggested. The IDA says five of the six were adopted and implemented in March of 2016. The sixth, according to the agency, was "a result of discrepancies in data..."
