Teen mom waives preliminary hearing

Gets bail reduced

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS)- - A Sayre teen, accused of leaving her baby outside for 72 hours, waived her right to a preliminary hearing Friday afternoon.

Harriette Hoyt is accused of second degree attempted murder.

By waiving her preliminary hearing, Hoyt received a reduction in bail and open file discovery, which means the prosecution has to turn over all evidence in the case to the defense.

Hoyt is accused of putting her 8-month old daughter in a plastic bag and leaving her in the bushes behind a house on Walnut Street sometime Saturday.

Two sisters found the girl Tuesday. Authorities tell 18 News she would have only survived for another half hour.

Hoyt's bail was cut in half, to $125,000 cash or $250,000 bond.

The next step will be for the District Attorney to present the case to a grand jury.

Hoyt was taken to the Chemung County jail.

The baby is recovering at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
