ELMIRA, N.Y. (PRESS RELEASE) - The community is invited to participate in the 9th annual STEPS Walk, which stands for Steps To End Poverty in Steuben.
The one-mile Walk raises both awareness about poverty in Steuben County and funds for Turning Point poverty services that work to reduce poverty and promote self-sufficiency across Steuben County.
The STEPS Walk will be held on three separate dates in three separate locations across Steuben County:
* Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 1 Steuben Square in Hornell in conjunction with the Wildflower Festival
* Saturday, May 13 at Pulteney Square in Bath in conjunction with the Bath Community Expo
* Saturday, May 20 at Centerway Square in Corning
Registration and our program begins at 9 a.m. The Walk itself begins at 10 a.m.
Walkers can raise both awareness and funds both online and in person. To get started online, please visit CatholicCharitiesSteuben.org/events/steps-walk and click on the STEPS Walk 2017 sneaker icon. This takes you to the STEPS Walk website where you can create or join a team or register as an individual walker. The STEPS Walk website is a powerful tool that allows you to raise both awareness and funds without having to beat the pavement - use social media and email to promote your efforts, accept online donations, track your progress, connect with teammates, and more!
You may also collect donations in person and turn them in at the registration table on the day of the Walks. Walk materials, including poverty fact cards and sponsor information sheets, may be downloaded at CatholicCharitiesSteuben.org/events/steps-walk or picked up in person at one of the following four locations across Steuben County:
* Steuben County Rural Ministry, 34 West Main Street, Canisteo, NY
* Turning Point Hornell, 20 Elm Street, Suite 2, Hornell, NY
* Turning Point Bath, 23 Liberty Street, Bath, NY
* The Corning Information Center, 1 West Market Street, Corning, NY
100% of the funds raised here stay here to directly benefit neighbors in your community. You choose the service area where you'd like your funds to go: Steuben County Rural Ministry in Canisteo, or Turning Point Hornell, Bath, or Corning. Turning Point operates at 7.5% overhead, meaning 92.5 cents on the dollar you raise goes directly toward helping those in need.
The day of the Walk, walkers gather in their chosen location to turn in any funds raised offline. Registration and programming begins at 9:00 a.m. Each location will offer different pre-walk programs, including musical entertainment. Opening remarks begin at 9:45 and the walk begins at 10:00 a.m. Bottled water donated by Culligan will be provided.
For more information or to get involved, please visit CatholicCharitiesSteuben.org/events/steps-walk, or contact Paula Smith at 607-968-4107 or email@example.com.
