Troy School District Investigating Gang Rumors Following Shooting Threat

TROY, PA. (18 NEWS)- - Parents, teachers, and students in Troy Pennsylvania are on edge this afternoon following threats of a school shooting. 18 News Reporter Samantha Lantz has more on this developing story.

School officials say the threat of a school shooting set for Wednesday morning at Troy High School was made earlier in the week. Since then, local and state police have been working within the school to gather witnesses and any other information they can about the incident. An automated voice message by Superintendent Charles Young was sent to parents of high school students Tuesday evening warning them of the threat. The message indicated a number of students had been suspended for the day Wednesday, and that local and state police would be at the school as an extra precaution. Young says classes resumed Wednesday morning without any issues, but that the district is continuing to work with law enforcement to get to the bottom of some very serious rumors surrounding the origin of these threats.

"We've heard rumors of gang activity, we've actually talked with some students that are rumored to be part of that and that is an ongoing investigation by us and by the local police as well, they're examining it and taking it very seriously but to date we don't have a lot of concrete behaviors with which to go on, there's a lot of talk but not much else," Charles Young, Superintendent of Troy Schools said.

18 News spoke with Troy Police who say they are continuing to investigate any and all leads they receive, but that they do not at this time believe students to be in any immanent danger.
