"We want folks to know there's a long legacy of individual people," Joseph Patterson, the president and producer for Key Arts Productions, said. "Folks like you and me who got together and volunteered their time and some of whom given their life for equality and social justice."

Those people, included Susan B. Anthony, Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, Gloria Steinem, just to name a few were showcased in this presentation.

It's all organized by Key Arts Productions, a Philadelphia-based company that travels the U.S., presenting students with multimedia history performances.

It's the kind of lecture that Patterson said actually gets students participating.

"They sing the songs with us, we sing a song like We Shall Overcome and they hold hands," Patterson said. "We feel the unity and I really enjoy that, to be able to connect to other people and feel this common bond of unity."

They sing along to different genres of music that the group's singers like Nathan Harmon get to perform.

"There are some more sacred songs, some freedom songs, a little bit more contemporary stuff as well," Harmon said. "It's a little mixture of everything."

But no matter the song, the group said the main focus is to remember what each of these people stood for and the impacts they left behind.

"Hopefully they'll learn a little bit more information on who these people were and hopefully that their stories will inspire folks to create their own stories," Harmon said, "and move forward in their own lives to do some good in the world."

The group also has performances on Martin Luther King, Women's Suffrage, The Civil Rights Movement to end segregation, just to name a few among different historic lectures the group provides.
