HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Animal Adventure Park giraffe is expecting a baby calf at any moment, and a live webcam is allowing you to follow along!
On Monday morning, Animal Adventure Park posted an update on Facebook, saying "Keeper report is that belly/baby continue to stay towards the back end. Observation over night peaked our interest a few times, but nothing to report just yet. April is eating but not as ravenous as days prior."
15-year-old April is expecting a calf with her 5-year-old mate, Oliver. According to Animal Adventure Park, this will be April's fourth calf and Oliver's first.
The calf will weigh around 150 pounds and will stand about 6 feet tall when born, zoo officials said.
Labor can last a few hours to days, but once hooves appear, the calf will be on the ground in 30-60 minutes. Within another 60 minutes it is on its feet walking and starts nursing from the mother shortly after, Jordan Patch with the Animal Adventure Park said.
The park plans to hold a contest to name the calf sometime after its birth.
A webcam has been installed at the Harpursville park to allow people to stay up to date on the process.
