ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our region.
Chemung County Emergency Management and Department of Public Works officials Mark Cicora Jr. and Andrew Avery advise motorists they should expect increasingly poor overnight road conditions, making driving difficult. Avery said, “Road crews will be out in the early morning hours to make road conditions as safe as possible for the morning commute, but conditions could still be hazardous”. Cicora added, “Motorists should leave themselves extra time to reach their destinations tomorrow. Reduce your speed and increase your following distance for personal safety while driving”.
Gusty winds, and blowing and drifting snow can be expected throughout the day on Friday, continuing to make driving difficult. Use patience and give road crews the time and space they need to clear roads and shoulders. It is not recommended that motorists pass snowplows, even in legal passing zones or on multiple lane roadways. Snow will begin to taper off later in the day, and is expected to end in the early morning hours on Saturday.
