Woman Charged With DWI and Child Endangerment

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - An Elmira woman has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs with a child in the car.

Tasheanna J. Harrison, 27, is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop in the 400 block of North Main Street.

Elmira Police initially responded to Weis Markets on Sunday at approximately 7:50 p.m. in reference to a woman in the store who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs with a child. 

The responding officers spoke with a witness who said Harrison and the child had already left the store. Law enforcement were provided with a description of Harrison and her vehicle.

Officers located Harrison's vehicle nearby and located her and the child.

Harrison was found to be under the influence and admitted she had driven the car with a child inside. 

Harrison was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and subsequently charged with one felony count of aggravated DWI for having a child under 15 years old in the car with her and misdemeanor charges of DWAI drugs and endangering the welfare of a child. 

Harrison was sent to the Chemung County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
