You can help donate to the Bath VA this holiday season at Walmart

BATH, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Well over $100,000 is expected in donations and in-kind gifts for the month of December at the Bath VA.

"We've already had many truckloads come in," Lynn Dinehart, the volunteer and recreation manager, said. "We've had donations and Christmas parties from the Corning C-VETS. We've got Southern Tier Fabricators coming in. We've got schools coming in to collect things."

Duffel bags upon duffel bags continue to be packed with toothbrushes, socks, and other essential items and will later be distributed to residents living on the campus.

More bags are filled with blankets, calendars, and stationery just to name a few, but despite the number of donations coming in, items are still needed which is why the Walmart in Painted Post, along with eight other Walmarts in the region, have teamed up with the VA creating a gift drive.

Bins are set up throughout the stores listing what customers can purchase and later drop in the bin which will be taken to the VA by truck on Monday.

The holidays are an extra busy time for the VA and the environment is bustling, but the staff is grateful.

"It's overwhelming sometimes, but it's very humbling to me to see the generosity that comes out of our community because we are a rural area," Dinehart said. "We are small, but we are mighty we always say because so many caring people, individuals, groups, and families come together. They all support our veterans here at the Bath VA and it's just wonderful."

If you'd like to donate at the Walmart in Painted Post, you have until Sunday to do so.
