Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops named redshirt freshman Trevor Knight the starting quarterback over Blake Bell for the Sooners' opener against Louisiana-Monroe on Aug. 31.
Knight, who was a four-star recruit out of Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas, threw for 2,092 yards and 27 scores with just three interceptions while tallying 943 yards on the ground with 15 touchdowns.
"Both Trevor and Blake (Bell) have competed hard and both will be ready to play against Louisiana-Monroe," Stoops said. "Like every other position on our team, I expect them both to continue competing for the starting job."
The junior Bell, nicknamed the "Belldozer", has been mostly used as a runner in short-yardage situations as the backup behind Landry Jones, who is the school's all-time leading passer.
Bell has 24 rushing scores the last two years. He completed 9-of-16 passes for 107 yards in 2012.
