ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - Elmira's own Mike Weaver is fighting for an NFL opportunity.
After going undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Wake Forest at kicker, Mike is putting in the work to simply do one thing - get a shot. Weaver, who emerged as one of the greatest kickers in school history, was a two-time All-ACC selection, made the Lou Groza Watch List and finished as the school's all-time single season points leader with 115 in 2017.
Currently, Weaver is ranked as the sixth top overall undrafted free agent kicker by NFL.com.
If Weaver is signed, he will become the first Elmira-area player picked up by an NFL team since wide receiver Guilian Gary in 2002, of Horseheads, who went to the Carolina Panthers. Gary was also an All-ACC pick for Maryland University in college.
Take a special look at the work that Weaver is putting in to get an opportunity at the next level.
