Elmira Girls Basketball Primed for State Run

Express set for big first round matchup

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - The Express girls basketball team is back in the New York State Tournament.

Elmira, who cruised to a big win over Horseheads in the Section IV Class AA title on Saturday, will play Kingston on Tuesday night at SUNY Orange in Middletown in the regional round of states.

As of Monday night, the start time of the game has been moved  to 5:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. due to the impending snow storm downstate. On Saturday, super sophomore Kiara Fisher scored her 1,000th career point to lead Elmira to victory over the Blue Raiders.

The Express improved to (19-2) after a 70-41 dismantling of Horseheads, but will face a formidable foe in Kingston (17-6) on Tuesday night. Kingston captured their first Section 9 title since 2014.

18 Sports previews the big battle with words from Elmira head coach, Jake Dailey.
