Local Athletes Sign to go to the Next Level

Athens and Elmira High Schools send Athletes to the Next Level

ATHENS, Pa. (18 SPORTS) - Three local athletes made a dream come true on Thursday.

Athens wrestlers Gage Cannavino and Brock Horton signed to wrestle at Wilkes University. Elmira's Mackenzie Tubbs also signed to run track at Daemen University.

Athens Wildcat wrestlers Brock Horton and Gage Cannavino were thrilled to sign to Wilkes University together. Cannavino and Horton were standouts on Wildcat wrestling teams that produced many state-place winners and champions.

Elmira High School senior Mackenzie Tubbs signed to run track for the Daemen University sports program. Tubbs had impressive career with the Express. Tubbs has been a part of the Express track team since 8th grade. The senior competed in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Field, and Spring Track and Field.

Tubbs was All-STAC West conference and All-STAC Conference four times between Cross Country and Spring Track and Field. Tubbs continued to impress as she represented Elmira in seven different NYSPHSAA American, competing in the 4 x 1 mile relay. Tubbs had personal bests of; 2:21.79 in the 800 meters, 3:03.47 in the 1000 meters, 4:53.09 in the 1500 meters, 10:34.96 in the 3000 meters, 18:26.80 in the 3 mile run, and 19:01.70 in the 5k run.
