Rick Sowell Talks Navy Lacrosse in 2018

Horseheads native discusses this season

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - Horseheads native Rick Sowell talks with 18 Sports about the upcoming season at Navy.

Sowell, who's been the head coach since 2011 at Navy, was a part of the first Horseheads high school lacrosse program back in the late 1970's. Two years ago, the Midshipmen made the NCAA quarterfinals and went on a run that will be remembered in school history.

On Sunday, Sowell and Navy lost their season-opener to Jacksonville. And now, the Midshipmen are without their top face-off specialist Joe Varello, who's been suspended indefinitely. However, Varello could be back at some point this season after his suspension, which has not been fully disclosed.

Later in the year, Sowell and Navy will make a trip to Syracuse at The Carrier Dome on April 21st. It will be the first time Sowell will compete in Central NY since 2003. Without question, Sowell will have plenty of local support at the game in April versus The Orange.

Sowell takes the opportunity to discuss the recent success and how Navy's recruiting has gone to a different level. A level Navy hopes to maintain in 2018 and beyond.
