ENDICOTT, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - The Tioga Tigers football team lost to Maple Grove 32-27 in the class D state semifinals on Friday at Ty Cobb Stadium in Endicott.
Maple Grove took a 26-14 lead in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard touchdown run by Nicholas Fabrizio.
The Tigers rallied back with two long touchdown passes from Connor Hutchinson to Nick Klossner to put Tioga in front 27-26 with under eight minutes to go.
Fabrizio then scored a go-ahead touchdown from 29 yards out to put the Red Dragons back in front.
On the ensuing drive, the Tigers were driving when Maple Grove recovered a Tioga fumble with under three minutes remaining.
" The turnovers hurt us tonight. Especially giving them short field. They were able to go up two scores, we were able to hit two quick ones and again that big back there was able to get going and put his team on his back and was able to get into the endzone for the go-ahead score," said Tioga head coach Nick Aiello.
The Tigers won a Section IV class D title this season and finish the season with a record of 9-2.
