WAVERLY, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - The Waverly Wolverines are enjoying their sustained success to start the 2017 season.
Waverly topped Sayre 5-2 on Tuesday night on the road and has become a power in the IAC this season. The Wolverines are off to an (8-1) start and show no signs of slowing down. 18 Sports spoke with members of the team following their win at Sayre on Tuesday and most of all, they're excited to be out playing the game despite the challenges of weather in upstate New York.
"We're just like everyone else, we were stuck in gyms and we had to battle the big snow storms. These guys have been responding and they've pulled through," Waverly head coach Kyle McDuffee said.
"These guys are looking forward to playing baseball and they absolutely love playing baseball and that's an absolute positive," McDuffee added.
Waverly junior pitcher Brady Roney, who's been a go-to arm for the Wolverines on the mound, is equally thrilled about the teams' performance.
"We've been hitting the ball and the defense has been solid. Great hitting by our offense, defense, I couldn't do it without these guys."
Waverly next plays at Vestal on Saturday.
