New York, NY (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin has been chosen as the NHL's top rookie for the month of March.
Muzzin, a 24-year-old Ontario native, completed the month with four goals and seven assists and a plus-10 rating in 17 games.
His finest performance of the month came in a two-goal, one-assist effort to help the Kings take a 6-4 decision against St. Louis on March 5. Muzzin added one more multi-point effort and recorded at least one point in eight games.
A former fifth-round pick of the Penguins in 2007, Muzzin beat out Chicago forward Brandon Saad, St. Louis goaltender Jake Allen, Florida center Jonathan Huberdeau and Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher for the honor.
