Avs ink D Guenin to two-year extension

<p>The Colorado Avalanche announced Tuesday that the club has signed defenseman Nate Guenin to a two-year contract extension that will run through the 2015-16 season.</p>

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Avalanche announced Tuesday that the club has signed defenseman Nate Guenin to a two-year contract extension that will run through the 2015-16 season.

The 31-year-old journeyman has emerged as a regular on the Avalanche blueline this season, having appeared in 38 of Colorado's 42 games and recording a team-best 86 blocked shots along with four assists.

Prior to joining the Avalanche on a two-way contract over the summer, Guenin had played in just 32 NHL games with four different teams (Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Anaheim) over a six-year span. Guenin spent all of last season with the Ducks' American Hockey League affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals.
