Alex Cawley is the Sports Director at WETM-TV. He came to the Twin Tiers in June of 2012.
Alex graduated with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in 2008. Despite being so far from Tempe, he still bleeds maroon and gold, and rarely goes a day without wearing something Sun Devil related.
While in The Valley, he reported for Cronkite NewsWatch, ASU's award-winning, nightly newscast. Between his time at NewsWatch and his internship at KTVK, he covered everything Sun Devils as well as all things sports in the desert, with the help of plenty of sun block.
In September of 2008, Alex said, "Howdy," to Beaumont, Texas, where he was a sports reporter and weekend sports anchor at KFDM. He learned quickly that there were only 2 seasons in Southeast Texas, high school football season and hurricane season. Having the privilege of covering Texas High School football, and everything from club track and field to Lamar University's trip to March Madness, he was ready to return to the northeast.
Alex was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, so there were certain things that were missing in his 8 years away from the region. Mainly family, hockey, Old Forge pizza, and his Yankees.
Alex is ecstatic to be back in a place where there is a winter season, and looks forward to covering all sports that the Twin Tiers have to offer. If you see him around town, whether it's at the driving range or one of the many pizza joints, be sure to introduce yourself. Though if it is at the driving range, be sure to do it at a safe distance.
