(18 News) – Thursday was filing day for petitions to run on the major party lines for local elections in November. Anyone wanting to run for local positions had to get their petitions in by 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Board of Elections.

There are a number of primaries and general election matchups in the Chemung County Legislature.

In the 5th District, there will be a Republican Primary between Sid Graubard and Ken Miller. At this point, there isn’t another candidate the winner of the primary would face in the general election.

In the 8th District, there will be a Republican Primary between Frank Cicci and Peggy Woodward. The winner of that primary will face Democrat Chris Callas in the general election.

In the 9th District, Republican Bill Fairchild is challenging Democrat Mark Hitchcock in the general election.

And in the 10th District, Republican Marty Chalk is facing off against Democrat Ron Ogden.

All the signatures turned in Thursday are subject to a challenge, so a candidate may be disqualified down the road. Candidates wishing to run on an independent line have until August 19th to get their petitions into the Board of Elections.

Local primaries will be held September 9th. The general election is November 4th.
