Elmira's Vaskivuo Named ECHL Player of the Week

Vaskivuo scored three goals, added five assists and was a +6 last week as the Jackals went 3-0-0 to extend their winning streak to four games.

PRINCETON, N.J. - Mike Vaskivuo of the Elmira Jackals is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Jan. 27-Feb. 1.

 

Vaskivuo scored three goals, added five assists and was a +6 last week as the Jackals went 3-0-0 to extend their winning streak to four games.

 

The 27-year-old had three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in a 4-1 win against Kalamazoo on Wednesday and in a 4-3 overtime win at Fort Wayne on Friday before tallying two points (1 goal, 1 assists) in a 4-2 victory at Toledo on Saturday.

 

A native of Helsinki, Finland, Vaskivuo is sixth in the ECHL with 42 points (13 goals, 29 assists) in 35 games with Fort Wayne and Elmira. Since being acquired by the Jackals in a trade on Jan. 6, he has recorded 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) and a +13 rating in 12 games.

 

Vaskivuo has tallied 197 points (79 goals, 118 assists) in 235 career pro games.

 

On behalf of Mike Vaskivuo, a case of pucks will be donated to an Elmira youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 29,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
