MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Four people died when four homes collapsed in Central New York during a severe storm Tuesday evening, according to the Madison County Sheriff.
Our sister station, WSYR-TV reports the homes were located on Goff Road in the Smithfield area, outside of Syracuse. Several other buildings were damaged.
The sheriff said 60 people were involved in a search effort and crews plan to continue searching Wednesday.
"We're starting with each home. We're trying to talk to the neighbors if any are here to see if anybody was home at the time, who lives there, how many people may be in the home. We've got our search dogs out here right now looking around. We're just picking up parts of the house to look to see if anybody's underneath them," said Sheriff Allen Riley.
The area is located about 12 miles northeast of Cazenovia.
