SAYRE, Pa. (WETM-18)- Bradford County continues to pick up the pieces after Tuesday night’s devastating storms.

Almost 48 hours after the storm hit some residents may be thinking “what’s next”.

A tornado knocked down a mobile home, dozens of trees and left thousands of people without power. Now comes the hard work of putting everything back together. It all depends on what your home owners insurance policy covers.

Managers at Henry Dunn Insurance in Bradford County say in a typical policy wind, rain, and hail will be covered to protect the property. But a warning, if a tree falls in your front yard the debris clean up is more than likely coming out of your pocket. Jane Watson said paying a little every month will help in the long run when it comes to insuring your home.

She said, “That is one of our biggest investments and you are protecting that, home owners normally come with a detectable normally between 500-1000 dollars which is affordable to pay out, but if they had a tree fall on their house with one of these storms there could be thousands of dollars worth of damage."

Floods and earthquakes usually require additional coverage. It is always smart to check your policy to see exactly what is covered.

If you file once or twice do not expect to see an increase in premiums. However, it storm damage or accidents on your property is a frequent event expect to see surcharges and a loss in discounts on your next bill.
