Power Restoration Continues in Twin Tiers

ITHACA, N.Y. (WETM-TV) NYSEG customers in Tompkins and Schuyler counties are getting their power restored after Tuesday's storms.
ITHACA, N.Y. (WETM-TV) NYSEG customers in Tompkins and Schuyler counties are getting their power restored after Tuesday's storms.

Thursday morning there were 1,300 outages in the Ithaca area. As of Thursday afternoon there are fewer than 300 outages.

NYSEG says their original estimates were for full restoration of power by Saturday. They now believe all service should be fully restored by midnight Thursday.

"There has been a lot of tree damage as you would expect in a storm like this when trees come down or limbs come down into our facilities," said NYSEG's Clayton Ellis. "A number of broken poles and that is very time consuming. Damage to our transmission system. Very typical damage that you would see in a violent storm like this."

"We brought a full compliment of workers into the Ithaca area to help out with this restoration effort and they've done a great job."

Customers are urged to contact NYSEG if they haven't already reported an outage so they can verify their records.

NYSEG says dry ice and bottled water is available until dark Thursday at NYSEG's service center at 1387 Dryden Road in Ithaca.
