Quintal takes over as NHL disciplinarian

<p>Stephane Quintal has been selected as the new NHL disciplinarian, taking over after Brendan Shanahan relinquished his role to become president of the Toronto Maple Leafs.</p>

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephane Quintal has been selected as the new NHL disciplinarian, taking over after Brendan Shanahan relinquished his role to become president of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Quintal will conduct hearings and administer supplementary discipline in the league's Department of Player Safety, effective immediately. He will continue in that role throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Shanahan had been in that position since June 1, 2011.

Quintal was an NHL defenseman from 1988 through 2004 with the Boston Bruins, original Winnipeg Jets, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. He appeared in 1,037 games and posted 63 goals with 180 assists and 1,320 penalty minutes.
