Rep. Reed Posts Record Fundraising Quarter

(18 News) – As we start heading into the heat of the political season, campaigns are beginning to release how much money they raised in the 2nd Quarter. This report is important because it’s one of the last chances for a campaign to show financial strength to donors before the election.
(18 News) – As we start heading into the heat of the political season, campaigns are beginning to release how much money they raised in the 2nd Quarter. This report is important because it’s one of the last chances for a campaign to show financial strength to donors before the election.

Following a strong 3rd Quarter in 2013, Congressman Tom Reed’s fundraising has been more lackluster. His opponent, Tompkins County Legislator Martha Robertson, outraised him in the 4th Quarter of 2013, and Reed has not been raising as much as he had been.

Until now.

Numbers released by the Reed campaign Thursday show he had his best quarter ever, raising over $661,000. That is over $100,000 more than his previous best quarter, the 3rd Quarter of 2013, where he raised $554,735.

The campaign says they have $1,270,000 cash on hand, which is about $200,000 more than the $1,075,459 cash on hand it finished the 1st Quarter of 2014 with. This means the Reed campaign spent about $450,000 over the past three months.

In comparison, Martha Robertson’s campaign raised $330,366 in the 1st Quarter of 2014, and ended with $813,510 cash on hand. Robertson’s campaign has not yet released its 2nd Quarter numbers at this time.

Financial reports for the quarter need to be filed with the Federal Election Commission by next Tuesday. Once those reports are posted online, we’ll go through them to see where the money for each candidate is coming from, much like we did with this story.
