(SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Duncan appears to be on board for making a run at a sixth NBA championship.

The legendary San Antonio Spurs forward has decided to exercise the option on his contract for the upcoming 2014-15 season, Yahoo! Sports reported Monday.

Speculation had existed that the 38-year-old Duncan was considering retirement following the Spurs' ousting of the Miami Heat in the recent NBA Finals. But according to the report, the two-time league MVP will instead revisit his playing future after next season.

Duncan, who is scheduled to earn $10.3 million in the final year of his current deal, has remained a highly effective player in the twilight of his career. The 14-time All-Star averaged 15.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks over 74 regular-season games in 2013-14, helping the Spurs to the franchise's fifth NBA title since 1999.

During San Antonio's latest championship run, Duncan averaged 16.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists while starting all 23 playoff games.

The No. 1 overall pick of the 1997 NBA Draft, Duncan has spent his entire 17- year career with San Antonio and is the Spurs' all-time leader in games played (1,254), points (24,904) and rebounds (13,940).
